Hugh Hamilton worked as an Industrial Designer for 28 years, changing disciplines in 1996. Hugh used the realms of the mind to win design awards, and design some of the first modern Canadian furniture, and create exhibits for the National Museums of Canada.
Since 1973 he has followed his heart keeping bees, planting trees, herbs and flowers. In 1997 Hugh created a walk in kiln and studio and started exploring the art of modern Ceramic.
Constant interaction with nature offers rich visual resources and insights for his ceramic work. Some pieces are technically challenging, and spend as much as four days in the first firing process and then are subjected to additional multiple firings.
Many of the large glazed ceramic sculptures can be
described as functional humor. They are created for inner and outer landscapes.
